Concerning the future of (pop) culture.

#1
A bit ago, when I was but a child. I found a book called futureshock. At the time I was not nearly as mature as I needed to be to have an actual understanding of it I did manage to internalize the major theme of information overload.

As time goes on we begin to produce more and more cultural works than ever before and, perhaps a bit more controversial a statement, niche tastes are able to be catered to at a higher rate; causing tastes to diverge even further into the niche. My question is if the tastes of the average person can eventually diverge enough to where the lowest common denominator, the popular culture, can no longer command as much attention/revenue as the subculture? Will the niche become mainstream?

If it does, what will happen?
